RAINBOW MOUNTAIN, VINICUNCA, AUSANGATE
The mountain AUSANGATE (VINICUNCA) is located 100 km from the city of Cusco and is the fourth highest mountain in Peru, with 6,372 meters of height; its minerals (iron oxides, copper sulfates and others) are what give shape and color to this impressive mountain that seems to be taken from a story.
The mountain of 7 colors, is also known as Rainbow Mountain, Cerro Colorado or Rainbow Mountain, name in English. This picturesque mountain is part of the geographic fault of the Ausangate, which in turn is part of the Vilcanota mountain range and has its highest point at 5,000 m.s.
HOW DO WE ARRIVE?
The departure from Cusco is at 4 a.m. with destination to Qollasuyo, the ancient road of the Quechuas and a very important part of the whole Tawantinsuyo (4 regions of the Incas) we will reach the district of CHECACUPE and the town of PITUMARCA.
Then we will go through beautiful landscapes arriving at the native town of JAPURA and HACHIPACHA where its inhabitants are Quechua natives, finally we will arrive at the place called QUECHUYNO where we will have a delicious breakfast.
After breakfast, we will walk past beautiful landscapes and lagoons where South American camelids (alpacas, llamas, vicuñas, as well as pumas, Andean birds and condors, etc.) hike is approximately 3 and a half hours, until we reach VINICUNCA – step of 5200 meters above sea level, from there we will observe Cerro Colorado and the sunrise, where the valley and the hills of magical colors are impressive.
Around we will see the mountains: Apu Sarinini, Mountain 7 colors, Vinicunca and Ausangate.
Then we will enjoy a nutritious lunch and we will get ready to return to the city of Cusco.
